OUR PHILOSOPHY

Education should be Personal, not Cookie-Cutter

Everyone is different. And everyone's educational journey will be different, too. Whether you're just beginning your test prep studies or have been studying for months, we'll work with you to help meet your unique needs and find the solution that is the best fit for you. Because we know that not everyone looks at the world the same way, we've structured our courses to give you ample opportunity to ask for help. We created weekly Friday extra-help sessions for students in our classes because we recognized that not everyone could afford private tutoring, but that everyone could benefit from a little extra personal attention.

"They provide personal attention, and constant support. I had constant access to Bernie and Jeff. They provide you with a help line number that you can use at any time if you have questions (yes, even at night)."

Ethel A.

Education should be Rigorous

We wanted our courses to go beyond gimmicky strategies and basic exam familiarization. Through the years, we've learned that substantial score improvements come from mastering the skills behind the exams. And by teaching these skills, our students are able to use powerful strategies to move through the exam more quickly and more accurately. Every lesson begins with simple content and ends with some of the toughest questions on the exam.

Education should be Fun

We know that class is a lot more effective when you actually want to attend. So we strive to keep classes lively and engaging. And because classes are small, we get to know you and you get to know us and your classmates. These personal connections make everyone look forward to coming to class and make learning far more effective.

"Classes were fun and we all felt like a group of friends studying together instead of cutthroat competition."

Kaitlyn K.

Education isn't just about Knowledge

We're super-geeky when it comes to the science behind learning and test-taking, so when you come to class be prepared to learn a lot about learning. We're fascinated by the science behind how our brains absorb, process, and respond to information, and we've incorporated that science into every corner of our course. From socratic-style explanations that have you recount and analyze your thinking on certain questions to goofy games designed to alleviate test anxiety, we have designed our course to be more than just a source of knowledge about the exam itself.

"Jeff is a fantastic teacher. He's able to make you understand not only the content of the test, but how to study and attack questions. His tips and tidbits proved invaluable on test day. He really helped me "see" the test - it's traps, quirks, hints, and nuances - in a way that the big box company did not."

Will L.

Education should be Honest

Large score improvements take time, effort, and patience, and no one should pretend otherwise. We're with you for the long haul, however long it takes to reach your goal. Students can repeat the course at a substantially discounted rate any time they like, as many times as they like. And students are welcome to continue calling and emailing with questions after class is over.

You can trust us to be honest. If we think your time frame is too short to achieve your goals, we'll tell you, even if that means that you won't sign up for our services. When you meet with us for a first consultation, we're going to help you determine what you need, not what we can sell you.

"They're honest and they go the extra mile for you. I came in thinking I needed 20 hours of tutoring, and after taking a diagnostic, the owner himself (Jeff) told me that I definitely didn't need that much time. At their own loss, he recommended a much smaller and cheaper package for me. "

Amira V.

Education should be Affordable

Early on, we decided that the best way to help students who struggled with standardized exams was not to make test prep cheaper and shorter, but rather to offer substantive and quality test prep at the same price. Our substantial number of class hours and free Friday extra-help make the cost of running a course substantial, but we keep our other costs low to offset them, choosing to offer a higher-quality product with less of an advertising budget and relying on our happy customers to pass our name along to their friends. We won't be offering gimmicky sales discounts: our classes are priced to allow us to make a living doing what we love: teach.

"If you're on the fence about spending a lot of money on the course you can sit in on a class. Compared to the other test prep companies Griffon Prep is reasonably priced without sacrificing quality."
